Drinking enough water and fluids is part of a healthy and active lifestyle. But there is a problem: the plastic bottle. Plastic bottles are made from petroleum: 100 ml is needed. of oil to produce a single plastic bottle. Not only is the production a danger to the environment, but the disposal of waste is also a huge burden.
If plastic is incinerated, toxic fumes are produced and thus pollute the environment. In Spain, 50% of plastic goes to landfills. A plastic bottle takes more than a thousand years to degrade. In this long process, the rain drags toxic chemicals to the ground. You can think that recycling is the solution: In Spain, 66% of plastic packaging is already recycled. This number sounds good at first sight. But the truth is that only 7% is used to make new bottles. Most are recycled into lower quality products, which cannot be recycled indefinitely. The renunciation of water from plastic bottles therefore represents a contribution to our environment.
Meanwhile, the issue of plastic waste has also found its place in politics. The European Commission has introduced the #beatplasticpollution campaign for World Environment Day. The Spanish government has ended free lightweight plastic bags.
Since July 1, stores have to charge their customers for each plastic bag. And large companies such as Carrefour and P&G are also seeing a change: they have launched the #PlayaSinPlastico campaign (also coinciding with World Environment Day) inviting the population to recycle waste to recycle waste on the beaches. The initiative has been in force until September 15. On the other hand, they have presented the first shampoo and dishwasher bottles made with recycled plastics collected from beaches and oceans.
